Melbourne’s beautiful people descended on Emporium again on Monday night for a lavish fashion party to celebrate the launch of Karl Lagerfeld’s newest collection of timepieces. The watches were almost as glittery as the people who attended with some of Melbourne’s most influential fashionistas making an appearance. I was lucky enough to be invited to the event held at the WSI watches store. For one night, the shop transformed into a sleek Melbourne cocktail party with waitresses pouring unlimited bubbly and offering dainty French themed canapés to well-dressed guests.
WSI is new to Melbourne. The store specialises solely in watches and stocks some of the world’s most well-loved luxury brands. The set-up is a lot like those high-end sunglasses stores or a museum exhibiting precious jewels. Pieces are displayed by brand in polished glass cases with black and chrome finishes. It gives shoppers the opportunity to peruse at their leisure or head straight to a particular label.
When you have invited such fabulous people to your party there is no need to book models to show off the pieces. Instead, the wrist of each guest sparkled in a Karl Lagerfeld watch which had been polished and fitted on arrival. Every piece in the collection was represented – think bright yellow gold bracelet watches, white ceramic styles and metallic blacks for the boys. It was a great way to get up close and personal with the collection and see how the pieces worked with different outfits.
But the true stars of the night were the timepieces. The collection straddles the line between classic and on-trend with a beautiful mix of luxury metallics, ceramics and leathers. These are more than just watches but distinctive Karl fashion pieces which polish up an outfit in an instant. Wrists bands are chunky, faces are studded, and gold cut-outs glint in the light. It’s those small details that I love about the collection. The ladies pieces are bold, almost industrial while still having a feminine edge to them.
A stand-out for me was the Karl 7 in muted rose gold. The watch features a silver face and rose gold cut-outs giving the piece a high-end, glamourous feel.
Overall we had a great night at the WSI event checking out the watches and mingling amongst the champagne and glitter. I thought the WSI concept was great and it was good to see so many labels offered under the one roof. I predict the store is going to be a popular spot at Emporium for those with a penchant for luxury brands and eye-catching fashion pieces.
